Follow-up concerning the new training requirements set out by Great-West

Dear members,

On May 13, 2019, the FQM informed you that it had begun negotiations with Great-West concerning their new training requirements for massage therapists in Québec. These requirements stipulate that massage therapists must complete 1,000 training hours by January 1, 2020 in order to be recognized as service providers.

Since the last communication, the FQM and Great-West held a meeting to discuss issues stemming from the application of these new requirements. During the meeting, we were able to witness first-hand the seriousness, rigour and neutrality inherent in Great-West’s approach. Like the FQM, Great-West wishes to “ensure the health and well-being of Québec residents.” [1]

Throughout the process, Great-West representatives, in their efforts to come up with a winning solution for all parties, demonstrated an understanding and openness towards the FQM. We also know that all associations of massage therapists in Québec were treated in the same manner.

Great-West has not yet issued an official communication on the manner in which the new requirements will be applied. However, we are confident that Great-West will do everything in its power to ensure a smooth transition for all Québec massage therapists, in partnership with the associations. Rest assured, dear members, that we will keep you informed of any new developments concerning this issue.
