Clarifications in connection with the press release published by the FQM on April 2, 2019

News

Montreal, April 3, 2019

Dear members and students,

In response to the questions you raised, we felt it was necessary to provide further information concerning the press release that the FQM issued on April 2, 2019.

First, it’s important to reiterate that it was the new administration at Groupe Kiné-Concept that decided on March 28 to terminate the group’s affiliation with the FQM. The FQM had enjoyed a good working arrangement with group’s founding owners dating back 25 years. This decision was made after a year of discussions and meetings with Groupe Kiné-Concept’s new administration concerning the training standards required (ISO 9001:2015) across all accredited schools.

It bears recalling that in the absence of any involvement by the Ministère de l’Éducation, the FQM adopted a mandate to ensure the quality of training in massage therapy. In doing so, the agreement on the accreditation of a massage therapy school, developed by the FQM, continues to guarantee that students will receive quality training under qualified instructors.

Choices relating to affiliation with an association

We wish to provide some clarification concerning Groupe Kiné-Concept’s assertion in regards to their students’ exclusive affiliation with the FQM. The outline for the FQM-accredited professional oversight course, in all the schools, calls for students to have the option of exploring various associations of massage therapists so that they can make an informed decision based on their values and the type of services they favour.

Answer: Yes. Rest assured that all Kiné-Concept or Guijek training programs will continue to be recognized in FQM member files.

Question: Where can I enroll in a Montreal-area training program recognized by the FQM?

Question: Can I continue to be a member of the FQM after March 25, 2021 if I completed my training at Kiné-Concept or Guijek?

Answer: Yes, you can continue to be an FQM member.

Question: What will happen after March 25, 2021?

Answer: As of March 25, 2021, the FQM will evaluate the training programs offered by Kiné-Concept and Guijek through its recognition of prior learning program. The FQM will continue its efforts to ensure that quality training is available to meet the needs of all massage therapists.
