The FQM is concerned with encouraging a climate of trust regarding the practices of the massage therapist profession. According to the syndic Me David Petranic, a modification of the code of deontology was adopted during our annual general assembly last June/in June 2021
WHY? A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE ACTIONS TAKEN
The code of deontology aims to establish, amongst other things, a relationship of trust between the massage therapist and their client. It also serves to protect our members against all misinterpretations of the actions taken during the massage, especially concerning the most sensitive or intimate areas.
Indeed, the number of complaints related to a movement touching the most intimate areas has gone up during the last two years. This is why a consent form written and signed by the client has been added to the health questionnaire, available in your members portal (for all questions about log in call 1 800 363-9609 or write us at administration@fqm.qc.ca).
This consent form written and signed indicates clearly to the client that they can put an end to the massage or ask for an explanation from the massage therapist at any given moment.
Furthermore, the FQM encourages its members to communicate verbally with their clients, in addition to the written consent form, in order to explain the relevance of certain actions taken on sensitive or intimate areas.
The FQM reiterates its engagement towards the professionalization of massage therapy in Quebec. In the same way we work to ensure the protection of the public, we also care about the service and development of our members who offer high quality care services everywhere across the province.
