The FQM partners with PAINtalks: A common front to fight pain

The eighth edition of PAINtalks, presented by the Québec Network of Junior Pain Investigators, was held in Granby on November 2, 2023. This year’s edition marks the start of the FQM’s partnership with this event, which featured popularized bilingual presentations, open to everyone, on the latest advances in pain research. What part can massage therapy play in this activity, and what is its role in connection with the subject of pain?

PAINtalks: Partners with complementary areas of expertise

The FQM is proud to be part of this major event, for at least three reasons: 1) Actors in the pain field have complementary expertise, and massage therapy is a proven pain management approach. 2) Members of the association, certified massage therapists, stand to benefit from hearing the insights of young researchers on this issue. 3) The greater public, invited to attend the event, will greatly benefit from this synergy between various areas of expertise.

There is still time to register to attend this event in person or in virtual mode. Registration is free of charge! And don’t forget to come and meet the FQM at its kiosk.

Massage therapy and pain management

Did you know that one in five Canadians suffers from chronic pain, a sensory experience that affects the body and the mind? Massages administered by a trained massage therapist promote a state of relaxation and well-being, which helps short-circuit pain signals and improve the recipient’s quality of life. Several authorities now deem massage therapy to be a complementary approach in overall pain management.

Research the key to best practices in massage therapy

Quality massage therapy entails high training standards, inspired by research findings and the expertise of trainers—the prerequisites for best practices. Nothing is more important to the FQM, which trains and advocates for certified massage therapists. In its continuing professional training program, the Institut de formation en massothérapie du Québec (IFMQ) offers theme days dedicated to chronic pain management.
